Masterson’s Tavern , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my recent visit at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may appear inviting from the outside , what I experienced behind its threshold was disturbing and far below any standard .

The ground was covered in grime , and a foul smell of stale beer and uncleaned toilets filled the entire bar . Emitting a scent of a mixture of ammonia , old age and sickness . The main bar, which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and refuse that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The lavatory was in even a truly awful state— backed up, with a cracked flush mechanism and walls stained in what I can only assume was feces.

Going through other patrons’ reviews and talking to people around , it seems that the standard of sanitation (or lack thereof) at this bar is a recurring complaint.
